Difference between “femtosecond pulse or condensed light” and “parallel light”

Fig: Beam profile collapses with or without cover glass
The problem is the likelihood of interference.
A protective cover glass is usually attached on top of the CCD sensor.
Interference may occur between the cover glass and the surface of the CCD sensor.
In the case of “femtosecond pulse or condensed light”, interference is unlikely to occur, but in the case of “parallel light”, interference is likely to occur and it is necessary to use a CCD without a cover glass.
* NCG (Non Cover Glass) is attached to the model number of the camera set without cover glass.

Other options

Attenuator set

The trigger option is effective for low repetition frequencies (below the frame rate).
Mainly for measuring pulsed light. It is used to synchronize laser and camera exposures, especially when measuring low repetitive pulses below 10 Hz.
The pulsed laser (10Hz) will not be visible unless the camera is synchronized at 30Hz.
The trigger option is not required if the repetition frequency is about 100Hz or higher, such as when measuring pulses. The trigger option is recommended for low repetitions such as 10Hz.

How to select options

Laser specification Reference value Recommended options
Power < 100 mW 1. Insert ND filter set (NDFS-CA50)
< 1 W (vertical polarization)
< 10 W (horizontal polarization)
2. Attenuating optics set with beam splitter
< 100 W 3. Attenuating optics set with double beam splitter
Beam diameter > 30 um
< 30 um 3. Micro-beam measurement set.

ND filter set (NDFS-CA50)

In order to measure a high-intensity laser beam, an ND filter set (NDFS-CA50) that can be dimmed and its mount are required.

* If the laser beam power becomes stronger than 100 mW, the absorption lens ND filter (NDFS-CA50) will generate a thermal lens effect, so a beam splitter that can further reduce the light is required.

  • LaseView camera set series LaseView-CA50-NCG compatible
  • Wavelength range: 350-700 nm or 650-1100 nm
  • Power:< 1 W(For vertically polarized light) < 10 W(For horizontally polarized light)
  • ND filter (NDFS-CA50)included:OD=2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 5.0

* Can be attached directly to the camera.
* The attenuation factor of the beam splitter varies depending on the polarization direction. (P-polarized 0.9%, S-polarized 9%)
* Although the ND filter (NDFS-CA50) has an AR coating, interference fringes may occur if the coherence of the laser beam is high.
* An appropriate attenuation rate is not guaranteed under the specified incident light conditions.
Add or replace an ND filter (NDFS-CA50) with an appropriate attenuation factor according to the conditions.
* There are the following restrictions on beam polarization.
・ Horizontal or vertical linear polarization
・ Uniform polarization characteristics throughout the beam
・ If these conditions are not met, the correct intensity distribution may not be measured due to the polarization dependence of the beam splitter.
* Posts for height adjustment and fixing are not included.

Supported Cameras

In order to use LaseView (Beam Profiler with M2 Platform Software Subscription) as a beam profiler, at least one camera is required.
*A camera with trigger option is suitable for measuring pulsed light.
*A camera without a cover glass is suitable for measurement of CW and nanosecond lasers.
*CCD cameras are sensitive to wavelengths up to 1320 nm, but there are errors in beam profile measurement. For accurate measurement of long wavelengths above 1100 nm, infrared cameras are recommended.
